Value for Money?

Been getting flyers through the post and the FLHTI Electra Glide Std seems amazing value compared to the std RK? The only difference looks to be a fairing rather than a screen and minor cosmetics. Have I missed something or what's the catch?

Re: Value for Money?

Both the same until you get to the instruments. Stnd does not have, oil pressure gauge, air temp gauge, and it does not have Harmon/Kardon Advanced audio system, intercom: CB, and cruise control.

Less choice of colours. The engine is polished not chromed, front and rear speakers not fitted. No wrap around passenger seat, no tour pack.

Stnd is wired up for cruise control and radio only.

Re: Value for Money?

They are a bargain and always have been.

They quite often have not been sold in the UK market over the years and used to be only available in black until this year.

The main differance has always been they don't have the black & chrome motor, both on the Evos & TC88 models, normally had cast wheels and lacked all the trinkets, beside that though exactly the same bike and running gear as a Glide.

A lot cheaper to buy one and chop one into Street Glide style than getting a Street Glide, plus saving a couple of grand on the way too and have just what you want fitted!

But if you want the Road King style i.e. without the fairing and the chrome nacelle that aint so easy and will cost a lot more to do!

Re: Value for Money?

Looks like a good deal if you want to make it more 'yours' - less stuff to chuck away / have the hassle of selling on!

Re: Value for Money?

electra glide standard has to be the best value hd ever

catch is like all glides they are worth Ł$% all second hand, buying them a couple of years old and leting somebody else take a great hit in the wallet makes a lot of sense

road kings hold their value, so if you intend trading up every couple of years they make sense

Re: Value for Money?

Been looking at these myself.

Black Bear have a demo one ,colour black(with stage 1+sissy bar+pad+carrier rack), that they seem willing to let go for price of a standard one.

Does that seem like a reasonable deal.

Re: Value for Money?

Umm, interesting, I've never spotted these on the price list before - it does look like a lot of bike for the money so long as you're not worried about the engine finish.

May need to budget for the tour pak and all the fixings and brackets if you want to do any serious touring but these sometimes pop up on EBay (especially USA EBay).

Taking on demo bikes depends on whether they'll give you the full guarentee of a new bike and, maybe more importantly, how well it's been treated as a demo. You don't want something that's been trashed on demo rides - the dealer should get anything fixed but it'll be a real bore if you have to take it back repeatedly for repairs.

It's a fairly standard offer for a dealer to sell a demo bike with a few relatively basic extras on it for the price of a new bike. I reckon you could either squeeze more out of the price or hit them for extras (maybe ask if they have a spare tour pak kicking around?).
