Re: ignition key mod for fxdx

I think if you look in the Zodiac etc. catalogues there might be one. I kept my round key but put a 2 position switch in so I don't have to have the lights on all the time. Good for starting on a freezing cold day to save the battery a bit! So it's ignition/no lights and then ignition+lights. A bit of a pain to switch when you're riding along but works fine apart from that!

I wouldnt worry about the security of the round key. It sucks but so do all bike ignition switches. You'd be amazed at how quickly and easily you can get round them. I have an FXDX too, Im an English teacher, have had no criminal history at all, yet I could get your bike going in about 60 seconds (really!).

Big chain and lock wrapped around something sunk into the ground with the lock and chain swinging in the air off the ground is maybe the only answer. Even this will only get you 3 minutes when worked on by a professional determined thief (depressing isnt it).

If you are really looking for a way to keep your bike safer from the chance of someone riding it away while your in the bar you could put in another secret ignition switch somewhere else on the bike and let the Harley one under your leg just be a dummy one (that under-the-leg position is ridiculous anyway dont you think?).

J and P Cycles have a selection of switches (I tried making a link but it just doesnt work)

Bikes a bit mucky, been riding it this winter, you can see where I put the switch - just to the right of the volts guage. It's a million times better. A good thing about the location is that a dealer had to ring me up and ask me how to start the bike because his mechanic couldnt get it going. The average Harley thief will expect to find the switch where they all are for the model. So I recon this helps too.

Sorry about the size of the picture.

I quite like the idea of keeping a 'dummy' key/ignition switch in the original spot.
