Supertrapp 4" Super Meg Advice

Just fitted my new 2-1 4" Supertrapp zaust and rode it into work this AM. The sound is a little different to what I'm used to and I'm not sure about any perceptable change in performance over my old Stage One kit...
I am running a 2001 95" Stage 2 (ish - Miki 42 with street cams) FXD, and loaded the can with 16 discs (a stock Harley is advised to use 12). After only a couple of miles (so arguably not enough time to let it warm up and run in) the nice bronzing has started (front pipe slightly more than the rear one ) and it doesn't seem to be running any worse/better than before.
Before I leave for home this PM I will check for disc colouration and give it a good blow on the way back home.
Anyone got experience on these zausts and got any suggestions?
Thanx
SF

Re: Supertrapp 4" Super Meg Advice

what were you running before fitting the super trap?
the number should alter the performance characteristic,
it may be by selecting that number of disc's that you have matched the the back pressure of the previous setup?
basically varying the back pressure moves the the torque and the bhp around all out with little restriction moves it all up to the top of the revs, ok if you want to go drag racing?
and applying restriction moves it progressively down the the band.
top match the cams and ign really to achieve the best tuning you need to go to a rolling road.
as they are fairly rare I'd suggest experimentation with the number of disc's till you get what you're after.

Re: Supertrapp 4" Super Meg Advice

STC, thanks. As always a man to rely on .
I had a look at the discs before I left work and they were quite black (too rich) so I removed 4 to take it down to 12 (Supertrapp's recommended #) and it rode a lot better - forgot to clean the discs tho, so won't know next time!
Only problem is that it doesn't sound anyhting like as good as the old pipes (bog standard SE Stage 1 setup), and although I think there is a noticeable improvement (especially in mid range) in performance, it does sound a little more like a sports bike....that rolling thunder is missing.
I think i will have to get it on the dyno and get it set up properly with more discs (more volume) and carb tuned to match.

I presume by street cams you mean SE203, we keep a huge database of history from our dyno which runs all day every day.
For your set up I`m looking at 18 discs with an open end cap.

Phild - that's heartening as I was expecting to put quite a few in.
I have one of those adjustable end caps which should do the trick.
What work would i need to do to my carb?

That entirely depends on how its running, jetting etc.
Run it for a while then check the plugs, what you really need is a dyno, I`ll make you an appointment

Changed to this set up you suggested, seems to run and sound better, although I'm still not 100% convinced about my carb setup as I still seem to be running a little rich.....will see.
I'm off to get it on the Dyno some time this week....

Re: Supertrapp 4" Super Meg Advice

Still running on the #s Phild suggested.
Really pulls like f*ck!!!
Got on the open road today and scared meself sh*tless - was blatting along 75 MPH and still pulling in 4th, and over 95 in 5th with still loads to go!!* Mixture of wind resistance and Chicken Liver made me slow down. People talk about a flat spot in between 2500 and 3500, but I didn't notice one.
Upshot is that it is still running rich, which I put down to carb issues. I'm going to have another look at the carb over the next few days (possibly get myself some new jets/needles) and book into see someone who knows what they are doing.
Currently speaking with http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/index.htm; anyone know anywhere else in the Frome area?

* This is of course conjecture. I am not who I claim to be, I do not own a bike and if I did it would not go as fast as these alleged speeds. Remember your home is at risk if you do not keep up repayments secured on it.
