| Headlight advice
Hi all, First post here so I hope you can help please, I have a 96 RK and I'm looking to upgrade the headlight to the halogen clear lens/ reflective optics type,( pt no. 68344-05) will this slot straight into the nacell (Same Connector etc.) and is the current draw the same/lower as I don't want to overpower the dodgy harley alternator. At around £90 from Guernsey I want to know that it'll work before I shell out the hard earned spondoolicks...as a true Scotsman every pound IS a prisoner Thanks in advance, Monster Ps forum is well good for picking up info |

Ive got no opinion or reference regarding the light you are considering. what i will say though on a general note, E marked lenses and lamp's rated 55/60watt are the only legal lights allowable in europe. so what (pardon the pun) you might say? exactly!! but taking that wattage as an example it's quite simple to work out the current draw on said head lamp. take 60watt and 12 volt simpley divide the wattage by the voltage = 5amp and 55watt will be 4.853333333amp so simple ? considering that you probabley already have the same wattage bulb in now, then there should be no difference on the load. its only when you start adding lights that there could be a problem. instance 2 x 50watt spots = 8.3amp add that to a headlight 8.3A+5A= 13.3A and so it goes till you get a problem with your charging. |

'kin ell Simon... I must be a bit of a Devil my 80w = 6.66666666666666amps Now for a easy answer Phild will be able to answer that he'll be looking in here soon. Why not just put a brighter bulb in?...I must be Scottish as well. I use a 100/80w P43t H4 Unipart auto bulb, part# GLB484BXT. About a £5 er if I remember rightly. Have a look here..... http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...king+headlight I am not so sure you will get an outstanding differance to the headlight, well pehaps not £90 worth. I used to run a 50w/100w headlight bulb in my FXR for years with no problems, quite easy to obtain. A '05 Headlight from the rear. ![]() I find having the spots on makes more of a differance, I converted mine so they can be on with the full beam too. http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...ight=headlight Steve |

yes Baz 6.666A but then add another 100w for the passing lights and that becomes 14.9/15A add tail 0.416A. a funny sounding police siren and it all starts to add up and if you have an older machine with say a 16A genny you start taking more out than you put in hence thats why you will end up trying to bump start it. and just for measure just remember wattage is actually heat so if the cable or the connector for example were only rated at say 5A then very soon the component will be black and crispy. plus that headlight is illegal |

68344-05 is just a reflector optics H/lamp that will work fine. Charging system was upgraded in 95 across the board to compensate for fuel injection. 68344-05 left dip & stock on 05 & later RK`s so should be legal in the UK.
