Question Fatboy wheels

I have just got some Fatboy wheels from the US. They are both 3.00 x 16. Does this mean that I can only fit a 130 on the back. I was hoping to fit a 150.

Re: Fatboy wheels

Tyres will fit the wheels but what year and model are you wanting to fit the wheels to? it could make a difference.

Re: Fatboy wheels

Just keep an eye on the tyre edges cos different tyre makes and types have slightly different widths.

For instance 150 x 16 'V' rated Avon Venum 2's are nearly 1/4" wider than the 'H' rated. Wanting as wide as possible I fitted a 'V' and when riding two up the nearside of the tyre caught a fender bolt head. Had to remove the under-head washer and reduce head thickness to 3mm to get clearance.

Re: Fatboy wheels

Bear58,

For the last 5-6 years I've been running an Avon Super Venom 150/80/16 (6.2" wide) on a 3 x 16 fatboy with no problems. Avon's literature calls for a 3.5" wheel. but it worked well on the 3". Coincidently, this week I put an Avon 160/80/16 Venom "X" (6.6") on the 3" fatboy wheel. Avon specs a 4.0 wheel for the 160, but it tested fine. Of course it required custom spacers and in the case of my evolution, taking about .100" off of the disc side of the wheel to center it in the caliper. The 150 required custom spacers and machining also.

Re: Fatboy wheels

Like Battersea, I had to machine the fender bolts. In addition I had to trim the upper belt guard (softail), reroute the wiring harness to the top of the fender, and put sheet metal shields over the part of the harness that drops down along side the tire to the turn signals. Do we love our Harleys or what?
