I've acquired a 2005 set of tins from an FLHRSI, i'd like to know if anyone has experience of retrofitting the above to an earlier 2002 FLHR carb model or similar, i know the tank under the centre console is different as in there's a screw secured plate for the fuel sender unit as opposed to the tank top being one piece fabricated, that i can address via 2005 parts, i'm just curious to know if there's any reason i havent sussed that will stop me using the later parts as desired. I'm assuming the fenders and side panels are a straighforward swap? Any advice gratefully recieved.

| Re: 2005 FLHRSI Tank to fit 2002 FLHR
My mate recently did this. A few of us gave him a hand. We fitted 05 tank set to an 02 road king. The only problems we had were with the tank. One of the lads fabricated the oval blanking plate & added a breather & locating bracket for the tank console bolt. We bought a gasket from the dealers & a fuel tap adapter. On the efi tank the threads for the tap go up into the tank & on the 02 they protrude out of the tank. The adapter was £16 from the dealers. All the othe body work went on easily. Finished off with some Classic saddlebags & it looks like a new bike. ![]() ![]() Hope this helps.
