| Re: rear brakepads came apart!
Hi All, yes VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) have an accidents and defects branch that investigates cases of manufacturing and design faults on all types of road vehicle. VOSA (among a lot of other things) also supervise the MOT Scheme and have Vehicle Examiners (VEs) all over the country. If you report these brake pads they will arrange for a VE to come out and inspect the bike/pads/etc at no charge to you. They'll put a report in to Defects Branch who will take it up with the manufacturer. If it turns out that it is a safety related manufacturing or design fault then they will push for a safety recall to go ahead. Because the same VEs supervise the MOT Scheme as do the defect inspections you can contact them via any MOT Testing Station - local VOSA offices are shown on their MOT notice boards. Good luck!! |

Last summer, exactly the same thing happened to me, both rear pads parted company with the backing plate with zero warning ........This was on a 7 month old '06 Streetglide with about 3000 miles on the bike. Two weeks before this event, the identical thing happened to a buddy also on an '06 model, but in his case on a Dyna. The dealer charged him for new pads but did not charge me, although I suggested they changed thier minds for my pal ...and they did. At the time they said they had not had any other cases come up, I doubt it |

Just before you all go over the top with solicitors and other things, brake pads do from time to time loose there breaking surface it’s not good but it’s a fact of life and it dose happen, furthermore the brake pads on Budbombpipe’s bike had done some 5000 miles, I’ve worn out rear pads after just 3000 miles, there isn’t hardly any breaking material on new pads from the start, so just as a lesson to us all keep an eye on your brake pads. Personally I don’t think that shouting and screaming at H D dealerships or individual mechanics will achieve anything, just change your pads more frequently!! Ukkid76 |

I know of two cases in the Milton Keynes area, both bike were 2004 models and the local main dealer (Silverstone HD) changed them as a good will gesture, not sure if they, the dealer, claimed them back under warranty? I know one of the bikes was an FXSTI, not sure what the other one was, are all the rear pads the same across the Softail range? |
