Thumbs down The Bad Bad News

I am working my way through the previous Posts and came upon this:
http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...ad.php?t=28924
regarding the Cam Bearing Failure. I Entered my VIN number on the site Harleyhog gave but it didn't say anything about my Bearing, just to go to the dealer for a Service! I PMed Phild and he kindly checked my VIN number for me (Many Thanks Phild) and as suspected I have the early Cam Bearing!
Am I right in thinking that the Dealer can do the repair as a Goodwill Gesture or am I looking to get the wallet out again? See (Harleyhogs link:http://www.harleyhog.co.uk/temp/Cert...)%20Manual.pdf
If it's the latter, (Wallet out), what is the best option, Dealer or Indie. Or maybe Harleyhog could give up his day job and open a Repair Shop?
All/any help, ideas, monies gratefully received.
I am now going into the Garage to look for a rope, anyone got a rope? Where can I get a rope?

I think Simon is right on this, BUT, if you can spanner to a reasonable level and you join the finest H-D club in the world you can hire all of the tools necessary to do the job yourself and save big time. Have done it myself and it is pretty easy if you follow the usual rules and the advice that is available from our members (including Harleyhog, and now Phild, the club oracles).

Get a nice set of mild cams put in at the same time, make all the difference in the world.
The cut off for the cam bearing repair was: 5 year/50,000 miles, whichever came first.

Ditto. Andrews EV 27 while your'e in there, or your fav, with help from here it's relatively simple.

By the way the bearing alone is just a few squids.

Re: The Bad Bad News

Should have mentioned a cam in my post, put a TW27G in at same time, no regrets so far.
