2 -1 Exhaust

Thinking of getting a V & H 2 - 1 exhaust for my 95" FXDX.
Anyone know the difference between the Classic & the Pro Pipe & which is best?

Re: 2 -1 Exhaust

Hi

Description from V&H catalogue for the pipes you are interested in.

Classic 2 into 1
A 2-into-1 with great style and outstanding performance. Once you hit the throttle, you'll instantly feel the increased torque and power gains over stock. Feature 220° 3/4 length heat shields that are plasma-arc cut from custom tubing. Every Classic system includes round, solid billet aluminum end caps that are precision CNC-machined, then highly polished and double-nickel chrome-plated.

Pro Pipe
Performance bred exhaust technology from Vance & Hines. Power, style and an unmistakable sound, the Pro Pipe HS is a race inspired system by which all 2-into-1’s are measured. Featuring complete 220° head pipe heat shields, this system doesn’t sacrifice its flawless style to give you the performance you expect. Finished off with Vance & Hines’ signature billet end cap to complete your look.

Not much to choose between them in looks or performance. Picture of Classic pipe not available at present from their website

If you want a price please e-mail, pm or call.

Re: 2 -1 Exhaust

Phil D has a Thunderheader on his FXDX - sounds really nice & goes like the clappers!

Has quite a few other mods than just the Thunderheader tho.

Definitely a "unique" sound from what I've heard - which, to my ears, is a good thing!

Re: 2 -1 Exhaust

Hi, V&H classic pipes are shorter and slightly upswept and not as loud as the pro pipe. We've been running a set of classics on my wife's dyna for the last couple of years, great performance with a really nice exhaust sound. Only problem we had was build quality. The down pipes were unfinished under the chrome. Covers hid mostly but really sharp edges, would have been nasty to fit. So we sent them back and had them refinished and rechromed (V&H importers paid because we complained), and they were a bit better. But all of the others seemed to be the same. Cutting corners in the production process where they can from the looks of it. Suspect they rely on most people fitting and not complaining. The old Screaming Eagle 2-1 is the same pipe but slash cut.

Re: 2 -1 Exhaust

Had the Classic on my FXR, great performance and fit but rubbish chroming. First time it got wet it starting rusting, bought it from Ago's, no hope of any warranty!!!. The way they are made makes it nearly impossible to prepare them for chroming.
The Pro Pipe is much better as the 2 into 1 is not part of the front pipes. The Thunderheader used to be available from Battistini's. Bartels Performance used to make cracker but I have not seen it advertised lately, well worth a look at if you can find one.

Re: 2 -1 Exhaust

Personally I swear by the Supertrapp 2-1. Had them on both my Sporty and the FXDX. Being stainless you can just re-polish them if they get tatty and you've got the disc system on the end to tune it a bit!

Don't discount the White Brothers "E" Series. This is one on the wifes FXDX. It also has tunable discs like the supertrapp.
