Re: New FXSTC clutch weirdness

So...........Got to work today, put the bike up on the lift. Checked the pressure plate/ball & ramp, then checked the cable & adjustment. Result? No idea!...............Everything fine.
I will report on anything further, but so far...No idea!

Re: New FXSTC clutch weirdness

Ok. Took her in yesterday, (the bike, not the missus), for the aformentioned bits and bobs. Chatted to the mechanic and he confirmed that the clutch was indeed out of adjustment, both at the clutch end and the cable itself. Clutch action feels loads better now, first goes in easier, gear changes seem a bit better but difficult to tell for sure as I only live about two miles from the dealer so lucky to get past fourth. Guess the clutch had slipped out after maybe 300 miles as it felt fine from new.

The head bearings were out so have been nipped up, again feels loads better.

It appears that there aren't any downloads avaiable for my bike so can only presume that the firmware (is that the right term?), is up to date.

I'm hoping that the heat problem will lessen over time as the lump runs in, we'll see.

Ta ta for now......

For some v odd reason if I trundle along at a slow pace for more than a minute or so, traffic jams etc, the clutch seems to lose all feel and the cable goes a little slack. This gets to the point where I can't quite get neutral, and have to stop the engine. Once were moving the problem disappears so it seems to be related to heat?? This sort of makes sense as at standstill the rear cylinder gets hot enough to boil yerspuds

I'm hoping that this is just a new bike settling in however I'd be interested to see if anyone else has seen this (odd)problem........

Yup! my new Dyna is doing the same things, Headstock bearing knock, cable slackness hot/cold, Can't comment on the hot cylinder though as not sure what is acceptable but the ol love spuds do come in for a simmering

An update.

Bike has now done about 1300 miles, it's difficult to be 100% sure due to the bad weather curtailing play, but it does seem to be running cooler as the miles rack up. The clutch also seems to be settling down ok although I'll need a warm day and a crawl through slow traffic before I'm happy. The head bearings are fine since the first service.

I've got a couple of Remus slip-ons fitted and these are causing a fair bit of snap popple and crack when on the overrun, fun for a while but occasionally sounds like small arms fire. Not a problem in the country but where I live small arms fire is entirely possible on a busy Saturday night

Due to the above I'm in the process of fitting a DFO at the moment, hope to get this done this Sat, I'll post the results

Re: New FXSTC clutch weirdness

I 've ridden a couple of stock 07 models including an Electra Glide in some very hot slow moving traffic ambient around 100F, yes the back pot does indeed get very hot with the heat chucked right in your crutch and the clutch cable does get slack, my 'O5 does it too but not quite to the same extent but it does all settle back to normal very quickly once you get moving. Correct adjustment will make quite a differance too, if it's all a bit slack to start with.
A brand new engine will also run hotter than one that has a few miles on the clock, it takes a while for it all to bed down so after a 1000 miles or so it might well run a bit cooler with no action needed.

Re: New FXSTC clutch weirdness

A little late, but an update on our demo bike. Turns out that during assembly they had only put two balls in the ball & ramp!
There will often be a lot of little ajustments need to be done at the 1k service as everything beds in.
