Re: What size socket do I need?

Got mine in a set from Machine Mart - nice quality set. Cromwell Tools also good for AF stuff if there is one near you - have not tried the websales.

Re: What size socket do I need?

Even with the correct socket care needs to be taken,as I discovered only yesterday.
Iwas replacing the front pads on my '01FLHR (4 pot calipers) and the upper locating pin head was slightly corroded and I managed to round the head!
So after panic set in. I consulted the workshop manual (great for exploded diagrams ). As the pins only locate in the inner half
I was able to split the caliper and after sliding the old pads off the pin.
Place the outer half of the caliper in a vice and remove the pin from the rear by turning it with a piar of mole grips. Then rebuild the caliper, fit a new pin luckly had one from a spare rear 4pot caliper I was given (dont forget the copperslip)and pads then bleed brakes Panic over.
I would suggest that before removing the pins a tap with an impactscrew driver would not go amiss

Hawgste
Reading you loud and clear.
I'm really hoping that the socket LV sent
will be on the door mat when I get home
and then I'll heed your advice,
got to get it sorted for the weekend-
apparently there is a window of about 2 hours
when the sun might shine on Saturday!

Re: What size socket do I need?

Make sure you put copper grease on the reverse metal side of the pads and also on the pins before replacing them.

Another MUST is to thoroughly clean out the calliper with brake cleaner because the dust that forms in there can seize up the pistons. You can even use the other halves tooth brush with soapy (Fairy liquid) water this is ideal for the job......
