| Filckering Brake light
Hi Guys, I have noticed that on my Dyna that the brake light flickers when the engine is running and vibrating, I have narrowed the problem down to the front brake lever rattling about and breaking contact with the switch in the switch housing on the handlebars, the brake lever is a bit sloppy on the piviot pin. My question is.. is there any adjustment inside the housing to move the switch about so that it stops the light flickering,or because of the bit of play on the brake lever pivot should I replace the lever.(original ally lever) Also in the Clymer manual it talks about a 4mm spacer being used when taking the switch assembly apart and also reassembling, to me it was a bit vague as to where the space went..any ideas on this. Thanks for any advice Mike |

On my Road King there is a small packing piece to hold the switch tight in the housing. I always take the lever completely off when I've gone inside the housing. The 4mm spacer idea is a pain in the arse. It's supposed to stop you damaging the rubber gromett when you split the two halves. Brian.

Had the same problem and was told that on a 2000 Road King the flickering is a common problem and that a quick fix is to stretch the spring (which is obviously a bit weak) or better yet replace the spring with a stronger one. Well I had an MOT due and necessity being the mother of invention and all that I just tried a temporary fix. I took the lever off and on the tab that actuates the ball bearing switch I tightly wrapped some thin card from the top of a cereal packet, trimmed the card to fit the contour of the tab with a craft knife and then tightly wound some insulating tape to hold it on. Put the lever back on and the lever tab and the switch are now a nice neat and snug fit- no flickering brake light, passed it's MOT and that was over 6 months ago and it's still working fine. If and when the problem reoccurs then I might use some araldite on the tab to build up a more permanent fix until then the bodge is holding up fine and everything is working perfectly .

I had the same problem on my Sporty......... Got one of those little adhesive pads for sticking pictures on the wall, cut it in half and stuck the bits, one on top of the other, between lever and switch. Problem solved and MoT passed.

Disconnect the wires from the switch.
