Re: FXSTC..... whats next?

I have to agree with Monkeybrain: Avon Venoms and EBC Pads: far, far better handling and much, much improved braking.

Re: FXSTC..... whats next?

Well if you don't want better grip then you won't be needing better stopping or for that matter better suspenion, on a Softail that's a moot point anyway

If all your thoughts are how best to spend your girlfriends dough on genuine moco parts then you are either into sreamin eagle or shiny. But you could improve your riding comfort somemore i.e. seat or bar/foot controls or you could sort out Harley luggage which from my own experience is very well designed and the attachment to the bike the most functional and aesthetically pleasing of anything that is available after-market. Just MHO.

Yeh, before i bought the bike i knew it wouldn't handle, had simple suspension, shit brakes and that all HD's are overpriced cruisers so no misconseptions. The point of buying it was that i could and split arse could go on the back. Despite all the downfalls i, like the rest of you enjoy riding it and theres always a smile lurking beneath that neck tube. Someone else summed it up the other day in a thred by sayig 'harleys have got soul' and thats what keep the smile shining....

My question of what to do on the bike next is more that i can't just leave it now and not mod it again. Everything i have i'm always looking for the next best thing, sure us alpha males are all the same?!?!? I'm just not getting the tyre thing and besides which nobody manufactures a rear tyre of a rear tyre size 200/55 R17 apart from dunlop anyway. I am a fine weather rider unless i get caught in a downpoor, buggered if i'm gonna polish all that chrome everyday like a texas shoe shiner so can only guess thats why i haven't had the misfortune of a dunlop disaster...
So screamin eagle.... what we talkin. Hotter cams? A bit of engine modding and a bit of asthetic modding, nice! Whats these foot controls you mention too? I have standard pegs at the moment which do need to be replaced. Seat is fine for comfort....

didnt we have this conversation before?
you can get the tyres in that size in other brands. avon and metzlers.
here is the proof! M & P - Product Information for 506178 200/55VR18 Venom R AM42C Rear
just look in the options bit and select your tyre.

Yes many discussions Dan but take another look at MandP, they don't do that tyre on an 17" rim, only 18" which is little good for us. I have had two seperate companies look in to this and we're stuck with dunlops unless we want to change the profile of the tyre which will in turn affect handling (not that that matters) but it will affect the overall diameter of the tyre. we can get a 200 / 50 R17 or 200 / 60 R17 but not a 55 on a 17" rim....

Re: FXSTC..... whats next?

i bow down to your superior eyesight! i had a heavy night last night!
there must be somewhere out there you can get the right size tyres though, its such a popular upgrade.
anyway, i dont think that changing the profile by that amount will affect the handling to a huge extent.

Trsut me dan i have looked everywhere for different tyres for our customs aswell as gotten advice on it..... Our options are to get 200 / 50 R17 or 200 / 60 R17. The difference is profile and overal diameter.... after checking clearance the ideal would be to fit the 60 profile as the curve is greater, to fit a 50 would be no problem for clearance under the fender but less of a curve and the bike wouldn't bend over very well..... thats our choice. Front is no problem i found a few people who do a front tyre.......

Re: FXSTC..... whats next?

so if i were to get a 60profile instead of a 55, it would corner even better! has anyone changed the profiles of thier tyres in the past and what were the effects?
my rear is going to need changing soon and i would like to change brand if possible, the dunlops dont give any confidence in the wet. i had metzlers on my old sporty and the difference was amazing.
