Hi all Can anyone help? I have a 2005 FXDX 2,600 miles that seems to use oil - approx 1 litre to 700 miles. I bought her with 900 miles 3 months ago just after she had the first service. She has the dealer fitted stage 1 with pipes, airfilter and remap. W've checked for oil leaks - none, oily plugs - there are grey at the tips, no blue smoke on starting and also after giving her lots wellie in the gears - no smoke. Today had a compression test with a coldish engine and front cylinder was ca 9 bar, rear 9.1 bar. Book compression ratio is 8.9:1 She goes really well both solo and 2 up. Does anyone know what the readings should be? Do these TC88 engines use oil from new and settle down to a better oil consumption when run in? Anyone else had the same? Any ideas? Thanks Richard |

| Re: Compression test readings TC 88 EFI
(moved into Tech here) there is a known problem with faulty valve seals on 2005s which causes high oil usage. there is even a dealership tech bulletin about it. I know damn-all about TCs but i am fairly sure i have this right..... LATE UPDATE: read this and weep Harley Tech Talk Harleyhog has very kindly posted the relevant factory bulletin in this thread. SHOW IT TO YOUR DEALERSHIP...they may not even know. Stranger things have happened ... or they may simply be in denial Last edited by kiwidave; 03-12-2007 at 08:24 PM. Reason: updated..... |

Hi - many thanks I'll print off all the stuff and have a "chat" with the dealer who supplied the bike. They will pull the "out of warranty" line but with this info ................. Thanks Richard |

| Re: Compression test readings / oil use TC88 EFI
I have one in the shop right now. Although the bike is more than a year out of warranty the factory is going to fix it. Over here they charge a $100 co-pay to the customer for goodwill repairs, but as I say they are going to handle it. The biggest problem that I have noticed with UK dealers is that often they don`t seem to know who to call or how to address these issues. You will probably be sceptical, but I find that if you have a good case, all your facts & info & know who to talk to Harley are nearly always happy to help.
