Re: Panic !

Hi Robert

I'm in the middle of a muddy field all weekend so can't gain access to the workshop to check, but if you swap the HT leads over you'll soon find out.

Re: Panic !

If all was fine before you put the new map onboard, then you need to go back to the old one - it's a matter now of getting to back to the set up when the bike last started.

have you checked any fault codes that come up ?

Cheers for the replies but the problem has been since the 95" build. Before that it wasn't running perfect (a bit rich) but it was running so I don't know where to start really. I think that I might just disconnect the FuelPack and go back to the OEM setup. See if that works and go from there.

How do I check fault codes? - I haven't seen anything on the speedo if that's where they appear, but then I don't know what I'm looking for really.

Forget the last bit - I checked on Hippos' page and found out how to check the fault codes.

Re: Panic !

Hate to cast any doubts in your mind but....during my 30 years as a mechanic I learnt to start with the basics with a problem like this, i.e. pistons, exhaust valves, inlet valves etc. What I'm saying is, is there any possibility that there can be anything amiss with the engine build such as valve timing for example? It's something I've seen a dozen times or more when people have brought motors to me after paying for engine rebuilds.
Just a thought, hope you get it sorted.

Could be something in this - I mean that I'm not exactly certain that I got the pushrods the right way around. I think that I did but I'm not 100% certain as it wasn't clear with the oil & all that. would it make that much difference if the pushrod was installed in the wrong tube? I know it would run really rough but surely it would start at least?
Been to the pub for a few hours to mull this over so I think it's best left 'til the morning but I'm going to start with the error codes I think.
thanks

Re: Panic !

nope if your holding the valve open you got no chgance of it strating cold. I think it is honsetly back to basics time and check you valve timing. Have you done a compression check ?

Dont know if you saw it but even tho I hate to mention the show when they did that viny and mikey twin cam on occ with the 103 kit in it, it wouldnt start and that was down to them having the wrong pushrods in it.

Cheers for the advice and no I haven't done a compression check - don't know how to as I've never had to before in 30 + years of riding. I mean a simple test with finger on the plug hole was the way I'm used to doing it, but that was with a kickstart on my old Nortons and Triumphs, I'm not so ure it would be a good idea to use the same technique with the electric start on a 1550.

Didn't see the programme either as I don't have Sky. I think that the pushrods are in the right way but it is just the sort of thing that I might do when the wife is calling me at the wrong time.
I'm going to check all the error code stuff first and see what that throws up. If not then I think I'll have to buy some new pushrods because the only way I could tell that I was putting in the right place was the fact that I stuck them in a piece of card that I had previously marked for the job. They look too bloody similar to me

Re: Panic !

well easy check is to just pull the plug and hold you thumb over as you spin the motor on the button. other wise its a trip t halfrauds or your locl motor fatcors and get one of those rubber tiped push in compression testers. You just use that isntead of your thumb and read the number on the dial. Where abouts are you based ? Also if youwant to talk pm Me and I will reply with My number.

Re: Panic !

Cheers Wrecker - I rthought that the extra compression of a 1550 as opposed to a 750 might just do for my thumb - silly me. Anyway I've beeni in the garage removing the rear wheel (something to do while it won't start) for cleaning and I checke dall the error codes. This is what I got:

P - on first press NONE next press: Pn32920-05
S - on first press NONE next press: Pn68925-00C
b1004
SP - on first press NONE next press: Pn67196-04A
T - on first press: no rsp

Until I know what they mean I'm stuck so I think I might PM Phil and ask him unless anybody else knows?
