Arghh.. Torx sizes, anyone help??

Can't seem to find the definitive answer for this one. Need to remove the front caliper bolt on my 07 FXSTC to remove the orrible tax disc holder that came from new. The bolt looks to be a Torx type fitting but with a 12 point head?

Cant work out what size it is and my local tool shops looked at me like I was a looney.

Anyone have an idea what size this thing is and where I can get hold of one.

Er, no Baza, that socket is female, what it required is male!

There are both 6-point Torx and 12-point XZN 'triple square' allen-key like screw heads and I have both at home (currently at work).

What you are after is a similar set of keys to Torx, on which the splined end is actually three superimposed squares, hence the name.

According to Wikipedia they are commonly used on German cars. I certainly have a few on my BMW bike.

Looks like you got the same info from wikipedia that I got, except the 10mm socket does fit...... least ways it feels ok from a quick try, not tried to undo the bolt yet...

Presume these must be Jap forks, or at least metric.............

Bloomin Torx, never had this problem with me Bantam

Calliper bolt is what he said and I thought this was one?

That's where some people fit the tax holder but on the nearside.

That's what I always use when taking the calliper off?

With the modern bikes a Torx set is a must have. FXST Dave suggested one which I got at a reasonable price. Try a search.

That's the one! A 10mm socket seems to fit, BTW any idea of the torque setting, intend to buy a manual but can't afford for a couple of weeks.

Re: Arghh.. Torx sizes, anyone help??

No from my CD workshop manual.

Get a Clymer manual for your bike it's a lot easier read than the H-D one and not a comic like the Haines manual....
