Question battery/alarm probs?Road King Classic 2002

battery failure has prompted me to remove battery and leave the bike without power for over a week.

Having tried to start the bike using my ST1100 as the power source.I am having no luck getting anything like a response from the starter.

Is it likely that the alarm system has affected the starting side of things.

The lights work as normal, the alarm is operative but when I turn the ignition switch to on the flashers flash about 6 times.

Nothing in the manual relates to the problem, when the starter button is pressed there is no power drain at the lights.

Nearest dealer is 60miles away cannot get the bike to them, easily.

I know that this probably isn't the kind of response you want but did you do anything else to the bike while the battery was out? I have been known to 'forget' to attach certain connectors when I've been working on mine and boy does it cause some headaches.

Re: battery/alarm probs?Road King Classic 2002

it was simply a remove the battery job.Nothing else removed.
I did manage to start the bike with the battery from my other bike immediately after removing the hd battery tomake sure the problem was with the battery, but after trying to recharge the hd battery I couldn't get any response other than the lights, alarm, etc

Well that's taken me right to the outer reaches of my knowledge base I'm afraid. I wish I could help but I'm having real problems with my FXSTBi at the moment so I haven't got the time to scratch my head on this one (I'm spending the time banging my head against the wall trying to find out what's wrong with mine)

Hope you get it sorted soon

Re: battery/alarm probs?Road King Classic 2002

Copied from my manual........

After reconnecting a battery, the security system will not enter the configeration mode on the first attempt, therfore, after all battery reconnects the configeration sequence must be modified as follows.....

1, set run switch to OFF, cycle ign switch ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON & press left turn switch twice.
wait for one to three conformation flashes of the turn signals & then set ign switch to OFF.

2, repeat steps listed above.

3, continue with configeration sequence listed....

1, turn ign switch ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON

2, press left turn switch 2 times & release wait for 2 to 3 flashes from indicators.

3, press right turn switch 1 time & release. wait for 1 flash from idicators.

4, press left turn switch 1 time & release. wait for 2 flashes from indicators.

5, press & hold key fob button untill conformation is recieved, 2 flashes from indicators.
if you have a second key fob, press & hold button on 2nd key fob untill conformation is recieved.

Hope this works!

Re: battery/alarm probs?Road King Classic 2002

I had a similar situation after replacing the battery on my 03 Softail.

You must go through a procedure to initialise both of the key fobs before you can ride, or else the alarm stops you. It's designed to stop tealeaves from tricking your alarm by disconecting the power supply.
