Re: skweeky brakes

Not a master on brakes but sounds like you may have something foreign between the pads and disc.Any scrapes on the disc? are they OK and not slightly warped? Are the calipers aligned properly?Take the pads out, have a good look at them. Wash your hands and run your finger over the pads, feeling is better than looking.Clean the inside of the calipers with a low pressure jet.reassemble and see waht happens. You could try different pads.If not that, over to someone else with more knowledge.

Re: skweeky brakes

Take the pads out and put a smear of copper grease on the METAL side on the back of the pads and while out spray all around the callipers with brake cleaner.

Re: skweeky brakes

pastyman.

I'm not having a pop, these are the facts as I understand them from posts so far.
Please correct any that are wrong.

You bought the bike from Bridge who are general dealers and had it in their second hand stock.
You bought it as Retail not Trade Sale so paid book or near book but got some sort of warranty and it had to be sold with MOT.
They insisted on taking it somewhere for a "bent" MOT as in their opinion it shouldn't pass.
Once they had your deposit they draged their heels prepairing it for sale and sold it with chromed "for show use" fasteners in safety critical locations.

When these fasteners failed and you retuned it under warranty they made a pigs ear of the repairs.
Now for the real pain, don't touch it,return it for proper repair stating in writing that time is of the esense. If you get no joy take legal advice on returning it for refund and looking elsewhere or having repairs carried out and giving them the bill.
It's a kin shame your first Harley has turned sour, don't give up,a good one is worth it.

Dave.

Re: skweeky brakes

Yes it's good.
It will be S&S parts or parts from later TC 96" .There's lots of parts about from peeps who have gone really big.
At least one on here has done it if I can find the link.

For peace of mind it may pay you to go to a recomended Indy and get him to go over the bike. His findings may be of use to trading standards and if they slap the rists of Bridge, take it to small claims. They still owe for parts they took/fell off.

Re: skweeky brakes

Here is what I was thinking of.
It seems S&S parts will give 96" and HD parts 95".

If the receipt is from a H-D dealer the 1550 (95ci) conversion could be a factory big-bore kit and the cam one from the Screaming Eagle range. Also if it is genuine H-D the part numbers are usually listed on the bill, this will tell you exactly what was fitted.

In theory you should inform your insurers of these changes although there are many who don't.

Re: skweeky brakes

I sorted my squeaky brakes by putting self adhesive shims on the pads, supplied by harrisons at no extra cost after i e-mailed them asking why my very expensive mini 6 was squeaking. (very nice people to deal with)
