Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

Hi Fish

Sorry to hear about your bike mate Sounds like youve been having one hell of a time of it. Mine cut out on me recently at busy traffic lights in London and wouldnt restart. Then when it did it would cut out again when revved. Turned out to be the engine temperature sensor that was faulty. Once replaced the bike worked fine. I know the scenario is different but might be worth suggesting?

You gotta have that bike going soon mate, I want to see the grin on your face

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

Hmm yep, anything is worth trying.
I still haven't heard anything from Harley, it's been a week and a half now.

Hoping they come back to me with a definite fault really, at least then I'll know they've fixed something.

And yes, I am looking forward to the grin on my face too. The summer is ticking by and so is my insurance / tax etc.
Another bikeshow yesterday that I wanted to go to on the Harley but had to use the BMW instead.

Was hoping to pop down and see you Ribs Harley types darn Sarth on it for a ride... still fingers crossed.

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

Just had a call today from the custom shop that Harley have released my bike claiming it to be fixed. They have done an ECU upgrade (flashed the firmware). It's been away SIX WEEKS, and this is what I suggested to them week one when I took it in!!! I work with vans and cars and the first thing to do on any modern vehicle is check for fault codes and check the firmware is up to date, grrrr.
To their credit the custom shop are test riding it for the rest of the week to ensure they are confident to release it to me.

Fingers crossed.

This is the reason I went for 1996 model. Old classic technology were you can fix anywhere on the road side. I think the new bikes are brilliant, but when you have a brake down say somewhere in eastern Europe you are fucked!
No offence meant

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

Recent experience has suggested that throttle cables breaking is the most common complaint - of course the 2008 Street Glide is fly by wire so has no throttle cables. Now that is progress!

Until water gets in the famous Harley electrics and you see my face flash by, contorted into a girlish scream, whilst seated on a blue and white inter-ballistic missile with the front wheel in the air.

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

I have broken them on various occassions, it does happen but only rarely

Once was nice - sort of, was in Huntly and managed to limp 2 miles to Ginger Molloys workshop with no throttle cable - nice colllection of his old race bikes in the back of the shop that I perused whilst they made up a cable on the spot

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

you can ride it with one cable no problem it only as two so you can shut down

in a emergency if the throttle sticks open or such like ( a us law )

ihope your problems are now in the past enjoy your ride

+ 1 to all that!

I just don't want to deal with EFI systems, 'fault codes' or stuff that has more in common with computer type f*ckups... What I love about bikes is that they're essentially 'old technology'. Call me a Luddite, but I'll stick with the simple stuff ;-)
