Beginning to agree with you there Dave.

Anyway, the latest is the custom shop picked it up from Harley on Wednesday all 'fixed'. Refitted my pipes, hypercharger and fueller, washed it, took it to fill it up with fuel..... and it cut out! BOLLOCKS.
I rang the Harley dealer and all they have done is an ECU update.
So they've have lent me a Heritage in the meantime, which is so 'not me', but a bike's a bike and they're not getting it back until mine is fixed.

Have you tried wearing different underpants? Those nylon ones really do create a lot of static you know, and that can do for any electrickery, especially HD stuff

OK, I've already got me coat on,

I hope you get this sorted real soon... at least you have a Harley in the meantime.

When you have yours back, sell it and buy yourself an Evo Night Train or Softail Custom.

Just my 2 cents ;-)

'This is the reason I went for 1996 model. Old classic technology were you can fix anywhere on the road side.'

'My 2003 is ok with the last of the carbs.....More people can help if I can't sort it out.'

All the above are correct especially the last one .. Since when did carbs not work?

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

I assume you had a V&H fueller on the bike, with V&H pipes, as Roger suggested the mapping sounds dodgy. when it comes to the fueller its not a difficult job to get it right, infact you can get all the info from the v&h website, the only thing ive found is the 1st setting suggests 1 as the requirement, this in my experience lets the bike run too lean, ive set mine to 3, although it runs a bit rich its better than lean, and gets rid of popping and banging on the overun, plus the engine doesnt run so hot, which is no bad thing. The modern Harley is pretty reliable, unlike the older bikes. so when the dealership does get around to sorting it I'm pretty sure you will have a solid reliable bike, just a pity your first experience has been negative

I think amal perfected carbs that didn't work properly

carbs do wear out and can cause problems

had problems with the mikuni on my panhead running shit midrange

took it to SPR who have a dyno and problem was sorted in about 10 minutes

It;'s a Kitech fueller and they replaced it with a new unit out of the box, it still faulted. They reverted it all back to standard and it still faulted, so I think they have eliminated the fueller as being the problem.
Personally, I think the Harley ECU / fuel injection / a sensor is intermittently faulty. But warranty / bike dealers work on the basis that they'll only replace what is definitely faulty, and they can't find the fault. So instead of replacing a load of bits to get me on the road I have to wait untill they get an answer.....

Fish,

I am a bit mystified that you delivered the bike to the dealer to get it 'fixed', but then changed a variety of essential bits as soon as you got it home! The dealer would have a better chance of getting it right if you left it alone, preferably as you want to ride it. They should also have cleaned it while they had it....

Best of luck getting it sorted.

Re: Help, losing faith in Harley

I've said elsewhere in this forum that I am totally the wrong person to talk to about any technical aspect of a Harley - or any other form of motorised transport!

So, I had a natter to one of our technicians, and he's suggested the oxygen sensor might be at the root of the problem. Might be worth asking the dealer the question.
