Air Suspension..

A Forester popped in mine for a coffee and a chat, and have a look at my new bike,,
Can someone explain how Air suspension works and if there is an adjuster switch/lever for same?
By all accounts my bike has them,,

Re: Air Suspension..

Valve/valves are on rear R/H frame rail just in front of bag. Some have rear only (1 valve) and some have front and rear (2 valves)
Add/remove air acording to load.

You have PM.

This link has a pic of a pump in it.

Re: Air Suspension..

there is a filler nipple relocation kit to move the filler nipple to make it more accesible and provides a gauge to check air pressure for the preload visually about 40 quid.

Re: Air Suspension..

Thanks " Limey_dave, I have emailed you + PM.d you.

And thank you "Lawnmower" for info.. Just out of curiosity how often should they be checked/pumped up,, at the moment it seems to ride ok,, am I correct in thinking that if the pressure is not up to what it should be,, will it bottom out,, or just get spongey?

The more I get into these Road King thingy`s the more complicated it seems to get..

Re: Air Suspension..

you will know when it needs doing coz the back end will be tramlining all over the place but generally check them every 6 months. I run around 15-20psi in mine and that seems to work pretty well. If you want details of that kit pm with your email and i will send it

People think it's just pipe and slippers,it's not.

What with pipe cleaners and pen knives, there's really no end to it.

Re: Air Suspension..

I've been fiddling around with fork oil and pressures on mine and still looking for the ideal set-up. At the moment I've changed to SE heavy oil on the advice of Phil and I have fitted a second hand pair of Progressive 416's to the rear.

Now I'm trying to find the optimium air pressure between the front and rear. I ran both the front and rear with no air riding solo with no kit in the bags and found that it's too soft even for a 11 stoner like me, the best ride solo I've got so far is a pressure of about 5-10 psi (I put in 10 but can't help some escaping with my Halfords pump ).

On the weekend I went solo but fully loaded up with kit and raised the pressures to 15 psi both front and rear. The bloody thing bobbed like a rocking horse, so I dropped some air out of the front and it evened out the ride- I'm going to check what pressure is actually now in the front before I drop back down to 5-10 psi front and rear now the bike has been unloaded.

I suppose the right pressure are down to the individual riding style, roads, extra weight etc. But the different pressure make for a very different riding experience. Let me know what pressure you run and how you find 'em.
