Cheers guys - I have the 1/4" ring spanner but it just slipped so I assumed that it was wrong. I've ordered some 3/8" drive female Torx sockets and I'm going to try and get one of the 12 point jobbies but when I don't know. Oh well that's the way it goes I suppose. Cheers again to all of you

Will check if I have any spare D20 1/4" sockets. I bought a few when a local tool supplier was closing as many people had a problem getting them. Will check it out tomorrow and will send you a P.M..

If you're fitting green EBC pads, keep an eye on them, mine only seemed to last about 2,000 miles.

However, if you already have a 1/4" 12 point ring spanner, and it slipped off, could be the pin heads are already damaged (probably by somebody trying to remove it with a female Torx... ) and you could have problems getting it out, even with the right tool. Mind you, a quality 12 point socket is going to be a far better fit than a cheap ring spanner. The other reason the ring spanner may have slipped off, is that the pins are recessed into the calipers. Your socket or ring spanner needs to be thin, otherwise it won't seat properly on the head, and you'll chew it up. Make sure it's fully seated before trying to remove. If you want to torque the pins down, of course you need a socket and not a ring spanner...

Exactly Jake and that is the old saying the right tool for the right job. Ok saying what you may have done the job with previously but, has anyone noticed a lack of answers from certain H-D specialists in these tech sections of late? Well it's because when the CORRECT advice has been given they have been superseded by others that are just plainly wrong and could cause further damage or injury. I thank-you. If the cap fits wear it. |

If you fit standard pads you might need to keep a fast eye on them. See comments including those of Banquo elsewhere on this forum. |

Tis true mate but still open to pm's. Maybe after a rest because it can be very disheartening after what you have said is contradicted and you know more facts than most as being in the trade not just a home/workshop expert. Last edited by BaZaź; 23-06-2008 at 01:52 PM. |
