Question Jetting Help.

I have just completed my Gear Driven Cam upgrade: Andrews TW37g Cams, Feuling Cam Plate and Oil Pump, H-D Lifters, S.E. Adjustable Pushrods and S.E. Air Cleaner. I put back the original Keihin CV Carb. (instead of my Qwiksilver) but fitted a Dynojet Thunderslide to it. I have Krome Werks AR III Exhausts so it should be free breathing in and out.
The problem is, it is running rough ticking over. I put a 48 Idle Jet and a 195 Main Jet as a starting point but would like to know if anyone has any recommendations re: jetting for this setup or something similar? Any help would be appreciated as it could save me a lot of fiddling/tweaking/time.
Thanks...Pat.

Re: Jetting Help.

I've set up a few CV40's with great results as follows .. First thing, fit a Sportster needle which is part no 27094-88. You should be fine with a 195 main using the 37's, maybe a bit too rich on the pilot though. The stock 45 will be ok or maybe a 46. I'm assuming you've taken out the little plug under the carb which covers the idle mixture screw? Wind the screw in until it bottoms lightly then back it out about 2 1/2 turns then when the motor's warm you can adjust your idle speed. These settings should get you crisp throttle response & good mileage. I've never used any of the kits available so can't say how to use them ..

+1 All good advise there, chances are its iffy low down with that 48 in it.
Like the man says 45 or 46 should be fine.
Turn the mixture screw both ways from the two turns until it starts to run rough and set it in the middle of the two and your good to go.

Re: Jetting Help.

devon.john, thamks for that. Loads of info on Carbs. on there.
MadMax, you get an adjustable needle in the kit so can't go down the Sporty Needle route.
MadMax and Scotty, you are both confirming what I originally thought: 48 seems a big jump from the stock size 45 but that was the info. given by Andrews in the Cam Instructions as a starting point.
I will get myself a #46 jet just in case. Do Pilot jets come in increments of 1, if so I will get a #46 and #47 while i'm at the shop?
Thanks for info fellas...Pat

Re: Jetting Help.

Forgot to ask: I saw a nifty little mixture adjusting screwdriver/doodah for CV Carbs, but can't find it now (lost info. since I built my new computer ). It was made of Brass and had a nice big knurled end that looked like it made it easy to twiddle the mixture screw. Anyone know where I can get one from?
Thanks...Pat.
