Re: rear calliper on 08 fatboy

Another long shot is that the wheel build kit didn't get assembled correctly.

The position of the disc is set by assembling the wheel bearing on the disc side first. It is pressed in hard up to the shoulder in the wheel. The opposite side wheel bearing is then pressed in, up to the spacer that lies between the two bearings.

If the first bearing was not set correctly hard against the shoulder then it would leave the disc and whole wheel out of position axially along the wheel spindle assembly and would likely then cause binding on the inner disc pad, even though the caliper is intended to float as it does on a 2008 model.

I have a 2008 model and no binding/overheating up to now after 600 miles(touch wood).

Re: rear calliper on 08 fatboy

Hi Guys, its been a long drawn out affair this has, but it seems all the 08 models with floating rear callipers bind, both the dealer and me have been checking every 08 bike we come accross, and all have slightly discoloured rear discs and are very hot compared to the front, they have taken mine out for a run without using the rear brake, and then measured the disc temp using an infared thermometer, then they have taken other models out, all new models with hardly any miles on them and they have measured the same as mine or hotter, it seems the higher the mileage the cooler they were. As if something is slightly out of line and beds its self in

Well, Well, Well, no surprise there then, nothing wrong with it, just wait for it to bed in. Tosh.

Couple of years down the line and after a cure is found by CCI, Zodiac etc etc., low and behold there will be an 'upgrade' available from the factory.
