Givi panniers on a Softail

Long time lurker, but this is my first post and already asking for help.
I have a 05 Heritage. The bags are ok, but I would like something lockable, larger and waterproof.
I know about the HD replacement hard panniers and that their Touring range bags can be fitted with aftermarket rails.
However, has anyone fitted Givi panniers to their Softail? If so, did you make your own fittings?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Givi panniers on a Softail

givi panniers when mounted to a bike make the bike very wide at the back

hd panniers are a lot better when it comes to splitting lanes

Hard luggage for Harleys can be got from:-

Mutazu motorcycle trunks, also has an eBay shop.

National Cycle do Cruiseliner saddlebags and mounting hardware. Can be got in the UK from Custom Cruisers UK.
This guy on eBay is selling a set in the US, for you to get an idea of the size.

Championsidecars also do hard luggage.

Re: Givi panniers on a Softail

Thanks for replies. I am/was considering Givi mainly for the storage space i.e. 35lt +. Touratech alloy panniers are another option. I know that they will be wide, but I already have beach bars so my filtering/lane splitting is limited anyway.

Re: Givi panniers on a Softail

A further consideration regarding Givis is that they are not only wide, but the fixing system is wasteful of space, so the bags hang out further than they might, if they used a more sensible fixing system. They are bad enough as a top box!
