Emergency Belt Drives

Hi everybody,

I would like to pick a few brains here. I am off to the US in a month or two and will inevitably call in to every HD shop I see. I intend to buy an emergency belt drive kit, suitable for an 03 Ultra.

Has anybody bought one or fitted one? Are there any odd things I need to look out for, such as tools? I see from looking at them they vary from bike to bike as you would expect.

Thanks

Re: Emergency Belt Drives

You will need something to help you feed the belt over the front pully.

Re: Emergency Belt Drives

Just my 2 cents, but what precisely is the benefit of carrying a spare belt that is a) expensive b) bulky to carry c) of only temporary use?

The temporary belt is just that - a roadside repair to get you home. It does not provide a long-term solution and must be replaced as soon as practical. Sooner, rather than later, the damn primary cover is gonna have to come off to fit a proper new belt.

My point is that, in a world where most riders consider roadside recovery to be more important than carrying tools, why delay things longer than necessary? Spend the money on a decent recovery package, get recovered to a dealer or to your home and do a proper job.

I guess it's a bit like belt and braces.

Re: Emergency Belt Drives

I've just got one.
If I'm on the way to a rally I don't want to be taken home. The alternative is being taken to a dealer and "if" they've got one in stock, being told they can't fit me in for two weeks.I let someone else touch my bike for the first time in 41 years and thanks to fellow riders it's not costing as much as it might have to sort it out.
If I need to fit the emergancy belt in future I'll take my chances and if it doesn't work I can still get recovered.

Sounds reasonable to me
