Help on 09 RKC stage 1

Hi,
First post and I hope somebody can enlighten me. I have an 09 RKC and it is my first Harley Davidson. I have ordered a set of Python Predator mufflers, Arlen Ness Big Sucker and a PCV, so far so good!
I found out that the 02 sensors are disconnected when the PCV is installed and instead of zip tying the wires up I have got some sensor bungs so that I can remove them for a neat install.
The next dilema I cannot get my head around is the valve (?) at the rear of the stock headpipes. What is this? Does it remain connected after the install of the mufflers etc? When I can afford new headpipes (at a later date) what do you do with the wire that controls it (I am a neat freak and if it is not needed I want it removed)?
I have been reading all-sorts about active exhausts/air intake and my head is a shed (oh for a simple carb). Please can someone explain what I need to do. If I need to take it to a dealer for the install, so be it, but at least I can question them if I know in my mind what needs to be done!
Last question, I promise; Anybody know of a good Harley mechanic in the North West?
Hope the above makes sense.
Regards,
Chris.
Blackpool.

Thanks for that Matt, I'll give him a bell when the parts arrive and say you recommended him. Last place I want to go to is Preston HD!

Re: Help on 09 RKC stage 1

I'm sort of going through the same mods as you are. I've replaced the stock exhaust and silencers and replaced them with Thunderheaders. The active exhaust valve cable can be disconnected quite easily at the exhaust end where it connects to the valve and not wanting to remove the thing altogether, I've just taped it up and tied it against the frame out of the way. However, I've also fitted an active exhaust valve bypass plug which does what it says; they're about £20 from v-twin mania and will de-activate the valve and lock it in the open position. I'm also going to install an S&S tuned induction and re-map the ecu with directlink tuning software.
The Thunderheader set up certainly makes the engine sound as it should instead of the pathetic anodyne way it sounds in stock configuration; there has been a slight but noticeable change in mid-range as well. When the work is finished, I'm expecting a more noticeable change in mid range.
