Re: RK TC 96 won't start

Having checked both relays on the multimeter for resistance and continuity I can confirm what pressing the brake light told me with each relay in turn and that was that both relays were kaput.
I bought replacement relays - still no start until I did as Dave suggested and gave the starter a couple of taps with the mallet whilst starter depressed and voila - success. It seems that the problem was a combination of broken relay and stuck solenoid. Many thanks for everybody's help - it's what this site is all about.
Roger, pardon my cyber talk ignorance, I appreciate the email and your help.

Best to unplug and take it with you and match it up.

If you ever get stranded with a bad relay you can just remove the solenoid end cover and engage the jack shaft manually,-this sometimes will get the bike started if the battery is too undercharged to operate the solenoid as well.

I found this out yesterday, after cleaning it

I was just wondering which relay to ask for,as sometimes the highly experienced and well trained staff can sometimes get a little confused when you do'nt ask for a specific part.

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

Apologies for the late response, I've been away.
As somebody mentioned early on in the thread, I took the offending relay out of the fuse holder and down to Halfords. I showed it to them and they were knowledgeable / gracious enough to find exactly what I wanted.
Alternatively, you could order the spare from a dealership, the part # is 31579-04, there are two of them in the fuse block, one for the starter and one for the brake light and they are identical so you can swap them around to identify whether you do indeed have a dodgy starter relay. (assuming the brake relay is ok)
Good luck

Comparable prices of Dealers v Halfords would be interesting.
