RK TC 96 won't start

I cleaned the Road King with a pressure cleaner but with the pressure turned right down. All the familiar lights and sounds come on when I try and start except that it doesn't start and I just hear a click when I press the start button. I let the bike dry out and still she won't start - incidentally, there's no fault code.
Am I right in suspecting the starter motor/solenoid and if so, what is the remedy.
Other than that, can somebody give me the logical troubleshooting sequence to trace and fix the fault?
thanks

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

Take a look at the starter on the top of it is a single wire just give it a wriggle make sure you haven't knocked it off or something like that,

Perhaps it's the starter relay that has failed when you press the starter switch can you hear a small click the noise should come from the left side cover,

If not there are two relays in there one for lights and the other for the starter try swapping them over and see what happens,

Or it maybe that your kill switch is switched off,

Good luck

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

is the battery fully charged up ?
tight connections ?
damp in the circuits somewhere ?

I use the jet wash on all my bikes, including the 30/40 year old brit stuff with no problems

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

Thanks Dave. I did a search of the website after I posted and it seems that the starter relay is a likely culprit. I'll try it first thing tomorrow and if that doesn't work I'll try your other suggestions.

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

Andy,
The multimeter is reading 12.68volts for the battery which although not 100% charged, should be enough to turn it over. I've also checked the connections and they seem good and tight. It's late now so i'll have another crack at it tomorrow starting with the starter relays.
thanks for your help.

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

I've made sure that all the connections into/out of the starter are good and clean and swapped the relays around with no luck. The clicking noise is definitely from the fuse panel containing the relays so I'm wondering if both the lights and starter relays are kaput.
I shall go to Halfords right away and buy some new ones.

Re: RK TC 96 won't start

When you go to Halfords get a bulb a bulb holder and some wire (or a multimeter tester) and remove the single spade wire in the starter Solenoid connect ont to one side of the bulb holder to that wire and the other to ground try pressing the starter switch just to see if you have a current through that wire if you have it could be a Solenoid problem.

The other thing you could do is with the starter switch pressed in give the starter a sharp tap with a hammer, if the Solenoid is sticking this is a good way of getting it to work again.
