Fuel Gauge

Hello

The fuel gauge on my 2006 streetbob is now not working at all, the light on the dash remains on and the separate fuel gauge on the tank is showing the tank permantly at empty.

The fuel pump works so there is power (and earth) up to the fuel pump/sender. The wiring between the sender and fuel gauge does not look like it has been damaged etc. The fuel pump and sender share the same fuse.

The only thing I can think off is that the fuel level sender in the tank is kaput.

Any other ideas? And if the sender is kaput could this be an indication the fuel pump is on its way out (no performance issues have been experienced) ???

Cheers, Roy

Yep, thats where mine seems to have a fault. The guage sometimes works, sometimes not. When I wiggle the connector it fixes it for a time then it goes bad again. I keep meaning to take the wiring out of the tank and fix/replace.

Re: Fuel Gauge

I managed to get a slot at Oxford HD for them to take a look.

The problem is the connector for the fuel gauge (which is underneath the left hand side of the tank) has corroded out.

I am going to replace this with a deutch connector or something else that is waterproof.

This could be the problem you have and is worth checking. If you unclip the connector (which is tucked up inbetween the tank and the frame) and take a look at the terminals, mine are all green and corroded, one fell out when the mechanic was looking at it.

For anyone with a separate fuel gauge setup, I'd propose checing your fuel gauge connector out and at least putting some contact protector in there to stop it corroding. Its a non-waterproof connector in a heavily exposed place, not a good combo ;)

Cheers, Roy
