34T front rear drive pulley

Hello

When Oxford HD were in there replacing my Inner Primary Bearing, I aso asked them to replace the front rear belt pulley with a 34T (stock is 32T on the 2006 dynas).

Excellent with the change, no noticable power difference - however in slow moving traffic, 1st gear is really usable and cruising at speed feels a lot easier on the engine.

Question. Around about the time I was trying to find out what was wrong with my bike (ended up being the IPB), someone posted a note about the calibration changes to the speedo as a result of fitting a 34T front pulley. I remember that the speedo comes off 4th gear etc, what I don't remember is what the differences between the speed the speedo is showing and the actual speed - I think it was about 10% (so if the speedo shows 80mph I am doing 88 etc). If anyone remembers where that thread is or just knows the information - would appreciate seein it again.

Cheers, Roy

32 to 34 is only about 6%.

Most speedos read at least 6% fast but saying that my Sportster is only a couple of % out.

As it's only about 6% out try to check it out with a GPS on a straight level road (they are generally very accurate). It may be OK.

Re: 34T front rear drive pulley

Just thought I'd give an update on the noticable changes with the 34T front pulley on my 2006 fxdbi, having now been to Denmark last weekend and covered just over 1600 miles

1st gear is now more usable in slow traffic. The biggest difference now is 6th gear, I used to switch into 6th when cruising above 80; now I pop into 6th from anything from 60mph up and it has slightly better acceleration (which makes no sense that I can make; however is still a noticable difference) up to 90/95.

This for just 2 extra teeth on the front pulley. Amazing.

So, yes, definately worth the change.

Cheers, Roy

With changing the pulley wheel - did you use the stock belt or have to renew/change to a longer one ? Is there enough adjustment to fit bigger diameter wheel to existing belt ?

Reason I ask is that am thinking of doing the same but want to keep cost down if possible !

Re: 34T front rear drive pulley

strange if iam correct you have geared up?
so in theary you should be changing into top at an even higher speed, i find on my bike with a baker6 speed top gear is fine at 60mph are you sure you went to more teeth???. the way you are describing it like you,ve geared down, it sounds like they might have changed the crank sprocket???
very strange

Re: 34T front rear drive pulley

Okay 2 questions

Question 1) Did I need to fit a longer rear belt - no. The stock one was plenty long enough. Its gone from being about halfway along the adjustment slot to just under halfway.

Question 2) Changing at lower speeds into 6th. Yup, I agree this is odd and not what I was expecting at all however what can I say - its how it is. WHat I have noticed though is although being in 6th now has much more range (previously, after 15k miles, 6th was something for 70+mph, before 15k it was 85mph and then into 6th, now its anytime from 60mph onwards.

What I will say is that while up to 90mph 6th gear has much more range, the gear up is more than the performance improvement from my stage 1 so not much left after 90-95. Where previously I could get up to 110 (obviously on a race track ....) reasonably easily.

hello Roy
its looking very likely that its been geared down?
your bike should pull 120mph?with no problem, have you a rev counter? this will answer the question.
you say its not got alot left is it reving out?
odd one this!!!

From the front or the back? If its from the back looks like a smaller sprocket has been fitted.
