Re: Fuel Injection to Carbs on a TC96

DevonJohn has done this on a TC88/95.

Send him a pm and I am sure he will point you in the right direction.

These are the guys that do kits - Altmann

There is also some evidence in at least one of the american forums that the conversion has been done successfully on an '09 bike.

The cons are that it will cost you to do it and probably reduce the value of your bike, especially a recent one. In the event of a failure of the ignition/injection system once out of warranty, a possible pro is reduced cost of restoring the bike to a usable condition. Unless you intend tuning the bike to a radical degree, the current electronics are likely to cope with everything you want of it, with suitable tweaks.

If you actually have an 09 bike, it is under warranty at present. So presumably you are asking out of curiosity, for a later date? The fact that something can be done does not mean it is necessary or desirable! Give us some clues of what is behind your question.

Quite Graham. It would seem to be a better thing to wait until the Warranty is up?

Re: Fuel Injection to Carbs on a TC96

Out of pure interest, what can be done to an EFI to make it perform better? I don't know, better acceleration/fuel economy etc

Must admit, I am pretty happy with my EFI, especially since fitting a PCIII/stage 1 and giving the bike chance to run in properly (found everything loosened up a lot after 15k miles). And fitting a 34T front pulley has made loads of difference when cruising over distance. However, always interested if there is something out there that would make EFI perform better in some way that I don't know I want yet (if you know what I mean )

My current setup is standard EFI, S&S air filter with K&N element, big shots, PCIII USB, standard cams/coils/leads/hd plugs. Been toying with the idea of a carb for sometime however have not heard a definitive reason for investing in the change so would appreciate knowing of ideas to make the most of what I have.

Cheers, Roy

The decision on injection versus carb has two levels - on a logical level, modern fuel injection offers better starting, better running in all conditions and the bonus of extra fuel economy worth several extra miles per gallon.

On an emotional level, carbs win every time. Carb advocates will tell you that carbs offer proven, reliable technology that is easier to work on than injection and that carbs are infinitely rebuildable. This is all factually correct (but injection is still superior ).

I write this as a rider who gets his thrills from an S&S Super E and has no plans to adopt new-fangled injection gizmos, but even I can see that injection systems are better in every way than carbs.
