dyna rear wheel removal

Hi.
Just went to get the bike out (2009 Street Bob) for a ride and the rear tyre is flat, bloody staple in it, taken weight of tyre with bike lift, is there any problems I will have getting this wheel out and putting it back, such as belt/wheel alignment etc ?
well pissed off, have only done 500 miles on it!

Mike

Have tried search facility but just keep getting "nothing found"

At that age/milage you shouldn't have any real problems.

Just make sure you put some copper grease on the axle before putting it back in.

You will need to check belt tension and wheel alignment once you put it all back together. You can make a wheel alignment tool out of an old coathanger and a rubber bung, it's probably best to buy a belt tension tool there only about £15. If you need to do it before you get the tool, just check the tension before you get the wheel out and try and get it back to the same sort of feel.

Oh and get a manual if you don't already have one.

Mike,

Agree with Rob. I was convinced there were several threads dealing with this, but the only useful ones I can find are this link, also this one. There are several useful tips between them.

With a new bike dismantling should be straight-forward. Above all else, take care not to strain your back, as I did a year ago, when reassembling. Despite having owned Harleys for years, I rushed at it rather than using a bit of thought to align the wheel for refitting the spindle etc.

Re: dyna rear wheel removal

Thanks for those links, some helpful tips there, which I shall follow. One other thing is, according to the stealership I will need a new tyre as the F****** staple went through the outer part of the tread, this being so and them wanting £150 for a tyre plus fitting would I be better off getting two new Avon Venoms fitted and would this have any effect on the warrenty?
All helpful advice gratefully recieved.

Yes you might as well go for the Avons. Better tyres IMO. Others may disagree.

No it won't have any effect on the warranty.

HTH,
Rob.

Is it necessary or advisable to remove the pully before taking the wheel to have tyres fitted? and can any one tell me a good place to get them done thats not too far from Hastings.

When it comes to refitting the wheel and you have the advantage of a bike lift then with the wheel sitting on the floor raise or lower the bike so the spindle slides through easily. its far easier this way rather than hold the wheel in the air(heavy) and line up spindle at the same time. The lift also allows you to lift the bike high enough so the wheel rolls in and out from under the guard

Do not remove the pully unless you have

1) The means to clean the threads of hub and bolts.
2) The correct Loctite
3) The means to apply the correct torque to the bolts when refitted.

Most important, don't let some tyre monkey touch the pully.
The pully can stay in place if using a dedicated rig for motorcycle wheels or using tyre levers.
If not fitting tyres yourself you have two options.
1) Get a good quote from a bike shop for supply and fit.
2) Get a quote for fit only and buy mail order, there are recomended suppliers that give member discounts listed on here.

Are Miller Motorcycles in St Leonards still going,it's been awhile.

Re: dyna rear wheel removal

Bad news about the new tyre.

Take it to a tyre specialist for them to check first. Had nail go through my tyre and just needed tube.

Replaced with Avon when worn out. Watling Tyres done Avon for £100 fitted to wheel.

This was Maidstone branch though. They do have a branch at St Leonards, TN38 0PP 01424 422224.

A tip when you refit wheel, do it flat, the diameter is smaller and you dont have to lift bike so high.

Hope this helps a bit
