Scavenger Oil Change System

Hey Folks,
Have you seen this?
..::Rogue Chopper::Welcome::..
Do you think the "puck" Just stops the flow to the filter area completely? If so can't you just make somthing similar using an old "blanked off" filter? and use a length of pipe to the return without changing it to their new pipework.
there is also this one but I think the new and old oil will mix a little,
Contaminated Oil Removal System (CORS) [CORS-75] - $19.95 : DiamondCommerce
What do you think???

Re: Scavenger Oil Change System

My first thought, while I'm on the outside and the oil is inside,I'll leave well alone.
Springs, clam shells, and clothes pegs? No thanks.
They seem confused as to if the oil is trapped in the sump or it will return to the tank.
Multigrade is meant to hold dirt in suspension, hence it goes black. If mine got like that to start with I'd drain, refill with cheap oil,run for 100 miles without stressing engine, drain and refill with good stuff.
Shortening the service intervalls after that would soon bring it back.

You drain the oil, half fill the tank, remove the filter and start the engine (keep an eye on the oil level). When the dirty oil stops and clean oil comes out the filter, stop the engine, fit new filter and top up oil.

mmmm... just an expensive way of making less mess I think, the cheap one might be worth picking up next time I'm over the pond, unless someone does them over here?

Thumbs down Re: Scavenger Oil Change System

Since the dawn of time engines have held onto some of their oil when making oil changes. Hasn't done most if any of them any harm! I've done close on half a million miles on my various bikes and I don't see the need for any such device. Just save your money and use good quality oils and filters.

... or if you're extremely nervous (like me) refill with clean oil, remove spark plugs, and spin the motor on the starter until clean oil comes out.
I make a channel ourt of tin foil to take the oil to a drainage container.

What they don't mention in their promo stuff is that if you do it by the book, and run the engine at fast tiockover, with the bike upright for a few minutes, before dropping the oil, then the sump should be well scavenged, and the volume of dirty oil nothing like as large as they suggest.

Looks like an expensive solution to a non-problem...
