09 RoadKing Exhaust Fracture

Just a heads up to check yours.

During the trip home from the local dealer the exhaust tone dropped while at traffic lights. So pulling over at the side of the road found the exhaust pipe had fractured just prior to the silly flap sensor. Good job I had a cable tie to get me home.

Hate to think what would have happened if I was travelling at speed and the sensor cable was not there to have held the exhaust off the floor.

I really hope this is covered under warranty as I will not be pleased to pay for a replacement with only 7k on the clock.

If I was still in Engineering and it was not a new bike I would just inner sleeve it and weld it.

No reason why it shouldn't be, is there....?

It's a new bike!

Only reason they could argue is if you have done something that contributed to the failure.

Re: 09 RoadKing Exhaust Fracture

As an aside to this anybody else agree that the exhaust clamps Harley uses look awful after a few months due to corrosion. Surely they could be better quality (and design) as they show on most bikes.

Most parts Harley use look awful pretty quickly if you don't keep on top of the cleaning.
Alloy wheels on Fatbobs spring immediately to mind.

Re: 09 RoadKing Exhaust Fracture

That the 'Torca' clamps?
They say you should replace them every time they're taken off....

They do get rusty pretty quickly, and they're pretty conspicuous too...

I had a couple of spares, so haven't had the chance to try any of these yet, but they look like they should do the job just fine.

I've had lights and stuff from Paul before, with no hassle.
