I can hear it on my 09 FLHT even with stage 1 and full face helmet so it must vary from bike to bike. It's a whisper up to 50 or 60, but if you hold on to 5th, by 80 it's pretty intrusive, encourages you to change up early, maybe an economy feature

Certainly know I'm in 5th on my 08 Road King Classic...can't wait to change up. No problem with 1st.
