bad economy

got back from Walesby and found i was getting about 30-35 mpg not good.
i was pushing at 80-95mph and loaded but not happy!!!
i run as 1550 203cam 42 mukuni with standard jets ( 165 main) with a velocity air cleaner.
i will check that the choke is closing and air cleaner is clean.
i recon i should be getting around 40-45mpg at that sort of speed???

john

John,

Jolly well done! You can expect the higher figures at more modest speeds but in those upper reaches you really can't expect any more.

If you had the bike optimised on a dyno you may get a tad more. What was your complaint again?!

John has a Baker six speed box.

Try this John. However, I used to find that 80mph was the magic number for decent mpg on my Mikuni. Under 80mph was good. Over 80mph and the mpg dropped to what you are seeing.

I'll see if I can dig out the chart I used to have that shows the overlap on the Mikuni jets vs throttle position.

Re: bad economy

That's worse than my Hurricane

you could always go back to fuel injection - it's more fuel efficient than carbs, producing ore torque at lower rpm and adjusts to the variation in fuel quality.

tyre pressures can also have a big impact on fuel efficiency, a few pounds down can reduce mpg by a staggering amount.

I'm only getting that sort of mpg out of my 1450 RK (carb model with S/E stage one) and I tend to keep it around the speed limits.
