Primary question?

Having recently had my primary cover off i noticed the teeth on my front primary sprockets to be very worn! (to a sharp point)...

The rear sprocket looks fine and there does not appear to be any tight spots on the chain,

My question is, can i just change the front sprockets or will i have to change the lot like you would, lets say on a final drive chain on a jap bike?

The reason i ask this is because i would imagine the parts to be very expensive, not like £100 for chain n sprockets on a jap!..........

Cheers
Matt...

Re: Primary question?

I would get a second opinion if I were you,

I did the same thing with my 03 Road King at about 20K, I like you thougt the front sprocket was worn so I ordered another one and when it arrived it looker exactly the same as the old one!!

I'm not saying yours isn't worn but just check it along side a good one before ordering a replacement!!

Re: Primary question?

The front ones are a bit sharp compared to a final drive sprocket but as Phil suggests, post a picture. When I went back to a chain primary, the front sprocket was a good one but it felt different to how a final drive sprocket feels because there are several rows of teeth beside each other.

Are you just catching your fingers on the side edge of the teeth?

Sorry, on a serious note Phil, i dont know how to post pictures on here only images!

The best i can describe is that the teeth are to a sharp point at the end, where the rear sprocket has a flat on the top of the teeth!...

No, thats touching the top of the teeth Simon, it's intresting what ukkid76 said though, maybe i could do with looking at picture of a sprocket on a low milage bike!...

Re: Primary question?

Matt nip down to Preston and have a look at one perhaps in stock or being serviced. I think your worries will be put to rest.
