Re: SE Road King - Failed Wheel Bearing

Just to give you an update.

Dealer ordered a new spacer and new bearings after a bit of nagging.

Put the spacer out of the rear wheel and the new one next to each other, and what do ya know, the new one was approx 3mm longer!!

Worrying thing is that the short one that was causing the bearing problems had been fitted at the factory! How crap is that!!

Aye well .... least i know its sorted now.

Thanks for all your help

Ruth xx

That doesn't surprise me at all. I've also comapred same part number spacers and found them to be different in length. It's all down to the person who builds the wheel not knowing whether they've done it right or not.

I've always had a front brake fluctuation at MOT's every year on my RK. It wasn't until I took both discs off recently that I found the mounting holes hadn't been deburred during manufacture, so the discs weren't sitting flat on the hub. Theses should have been rejected by the person fitting them.

Glad you've finally got it sorted without any major disasters.

Brian.

Re: SE Road King - Failed Wheel Bearing

Sounds like the dealer could have damaged the spacer when they removed it from the old wheel, to fit into the new one.
Especially if they didn't have a proper tool.
