No mate it's to relieve the pain in your right hand when you're doing 400 mile days. Ride South East from Milan on the autostrada without cruise control and when you get to Brindisi, then give me your opinion on cruise control.

Ride South East from Heathrow on the M25/M23 with cruise control until you get to Gatwick then give us your opinion on the colour of your underpants

Nowadays I ride a bike for pleasure, not torture

Why would I use cruise control on the M25/M23 to Gatwick?

Re: Cruise Control Function?

Al least with cruise control you can put your feet up, kick back and relax whilst the bike does all the work, even catch up on the old zzzzs for 40 winks

You get pain in your hand whilst riding long distances? Why? If on a good run on a highway/motorway you've set your hand in the position that rests easily on the grip at the speed you require(which requires no effort), occasionally needing the slightests of adjustment to maintain that speed, how does this result in pain in your hand? I'm baffled by that. Regardless of all the good points made by Kernow, what are you doing that results in your hand suffering pain and why do you seem to think you're the only one that rides more than a few miles regularly?. 400 miles isn't an exceptionally huge distance to travel and if you are doing it regular and your body can't cope with it, it would seem that maybe you have weakness there. Someone that doesn't normally do 400 miles a day may suffer problems as their limbs are not used to it, but I've never suffered the "pain" you refer to in any way, shape or form and that would not be something my limbs are used to normally. I recently covered well over a 1000 miles in a few days after being unable to ride my bike for more than 6 months. No pain whatsoever! Go see the Doctor, you're falling apart mate. Quite how you can read Kernow's post's and believe he's wrong with the training, profession and riding experience he has is nothing short of staggering. Oh and if your 400 mile ride doesn't allow you to set your hand and ride at a constant speed with only minor adjustments (due to steep inclines etc), Cruise Control would not operate in a way that would maintain your speed anyway and would still require input from yourself as described by several on this thread that use Cruise Control regularly, therefore you're gonna get your pain anyway aren't you? Your experience reminds me of riding a 250cc two stroke for long distances which requires dramatic throttle adjustments regularly, not a bike that probably has more torque pound for pound than most others on the market. I look forward to your reply telling me I'm wrong, I'm sure it will be most amusing. .

Re: Cruise Control Function?

CC is afterall a matter of choice. Never in over 40 years of riding bikes have I before had one with CC fitted though with cars used it for nearly 20 years. For me it is a step forward. I love it and will no doubt use it on the way to the Lakes meeting tonight.
