Re: Fly by wire

most modern jet planes seem to manage quite well with that system, as do a lot of ambulances, racing vehicles and whole of things that have much harder lives than a harley.

I seem to recall that the Airbus that disappeared in the Atlantic was Fly-byWire

Re: Fly by wire

From what I understand there is some kind of delay within the system which causes a reduction in acceleration. The end result is supposedly when you crack the throttle open there is less of an impact on a carb or butterly than if snapped open under the direct control of a cable. Very few cases of failure ever mentioned on the US forums. The obvious difference is the inability to replace it yourself if it ever does go down.

You got that the wrong way round.
If H-D built a plane would it fly?

What did you think of them?
Were they the 2010 models?

Re: Fly by wire

Surprisingly enough (because it is on a Harley) we have seen VERY few problems.

Of course the whole engine management package is Delphi who are very good at what they do. They have been building fly by wire systems for cars & trucks for years.

They where 09 models. Street glide had 103" motor, but was impressed with both.
Could be the way to go.

Re: Fly by wire

I have a 2008 Street Glide that has the Fly By Wire throttle and I can honestly say that I cannot tell the difference (other than the lack of a cable )

Acceleration is as per a normal throttle.
