| Re: Oversize Front Tyre on Dyna
leaving aside the 'kewl' aspects, I've long been of the view that the 3.00 x 21" size is not adequate for a bike of the size and weight of the H-D Big Twin. Hence comments above about the 21" being "scary at 90" front tyre size is always a trade-off between high and low-speed handling and manouverability. SX150 covers exactly this in his comparison about fat & thin front tyres on the same bike. I'd suggest that the best balance between low speed steering, high speed stability and ground clearance, would be a fairly high-aspect tyre of 3.50 x 19" or something very like it.

The front rim on my Dyna is 2.5 x 19" and have an Avon Venom 110 x 19" on it. It actually measures 119mm wide and fills the gap between the tyre and the mudguard better. I think it may be OK for the 2.15 rim as well. The Avon website will confirm. BTW handles just fine.

Some nice pictures (and great advice too). Variety is the spice of life, eh ? |
