200 conversion

OK - I've tried the search thing and didn't get any luck so I'll post the question and see:

What parts are required to convert a 2005 Nightrain with a 150 rear to a 200 rear, and where might I get them? I know I need a bigger wheel before you go there

Usual thanks apply to all respondants

Re: 200 conversion

Use a 7/8" belt and pulley and it'll fit with a bit of spacer jiggery-pokery. Don't forget the bigger wheel (and tyre).

You'll also need to change the upper and lower belt guards and more than likely the rear fender and or struts...

Can't think where you might get the parts though

Give Kev at Le Rock a call on 01623 632266 .. he sorted me out with an 18" x 6" rear rim for my 2003 Softail. Used a 200 tyre and it bolted straight in - stock spacers, belt, pulley & guards - simple. Little bit of grinding on the caliper mount. I used the stock hub laced up to stainless spokes & changed the fender. Handles better than stock & looks good.

Re: 200 conversion

The frames on the newer models have the ears under the fender struts removed and instead use bolt on ones, they use different fender struts and fenders, the rear wheels are 17" instead of 16", the swing arms appear wider, they use 2 pot floating calipers, the belts are thinner and they seem to have a small spacer between the primary and crank cases.
If you were to obtain parts books for the models, you should be able to work out which parts would need replacement and which parts are common to both, from the part numbers.
You may be lucky and find that the current parts book also list parts for earlier models.
Don't forget, you'll need a bigger wheel.

Thanks Alex ....... As the saying goes: I would if I could. My Nightrain has a solid rear wheel that I quite like the look of so I can't really have a hub laced to a new rim. I did think of getting it done this way but if I did I would want the whole thing black. Hub, rim, and spokes.
Cheers for the help though. You never know. I might have to go that way in the end

Re: 200 conversion

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I'm waiting now to see if I can pick up a wheel for a decent price as I don't have a hub that can be re-laced. I'll let you all know as and when so to speak.
Going for a 110/90 - 19 on the front but I've got to strip the hub out first because I want the rim and spokes black with some brass nipples (ooer missus) If I cold get the same on the back (16" though) I'd be well happy.

I'm starting to strip most of the rolling chassis now that the rear tyre has gone. That way I can get it into the powder coaters, for the black treatment, before Christmas.
