Front Engine Rubber Mount

Morning, I am trying to fit a Front Engine Rubber Mount - part no 16207-79D to a 2002 Road King

It looks a little different from the one I have removed. I think I can guess which is the top, but thought I would just ask - you know us 1/2 spanner mechanics

One side of the mounting plate the rubber is shaped ) ( with a metal plate on the top. And the other side is [ ] short of shape ... which I think is the bottom and this only has a metal centre part. Trust this makes sense.

Also when doing this last night I noticed that one of the Lower Mounting bracket bolts was sheared so I need to replace this, does anyone know if I can secure the mounting once I have fitted the rubber mount.

Thanks for any help - seem to struggle with anything mechanical

Re: Front Engine Rubber Mount

Hello Brian. thank you so much for taking the time to do that for me - really helpful. I am going to assume that the top is where your pictures shows the bolt head. The is the )( shaped end, so mu guess was correct.

I was told to jack up the front engine casing to fit the bush, but this was difficult and then when I noticed one of the bolyt gas sheared on the lower mounting bracket, well it made sense thje remove that and refit when I get a new bolt.

Although I think I am going to struggle to get a spanner to one of the nuts but hey everything takes me hours. I am a great believer to everyman to his own and bike mechanics is not mine.

Thanks again Brian.

Re: Front Engine Rubber Mount

Hi Brian, just read your link again and found the service bulletin which clearly shows what is top and bottom. Thanks mate - perfect Just need to find 5 hours to complete the job. ha ha.

None of the dealers has a bolt in stock so need to find a good hardware store I think.

Re: Front Engine Rubber Mount

Thansk Baza - your so nice !!! I had the exhaust fitted yesterday which was great, so thanks again. They then told me I need a new front rubber which in hindsight they could have asked me if I wanted it fitted to which I would have replied YES PLEASE. So I am know struggling with my 1/2 spanner skills and lack of tools to fit one myself.

Know I have the part numbers I can start to ring around again. Sorry to push my luck but anyway we could find the size in case I need to go outside of the Harley network ??

Re: Front Engine Rubber Mount

Thats it - a result, with the part numbers life was a little easier. Just spoke to Chester HD and they have all me bits in stock and are shipping recorded delivery today, spoke to a lovely lady in their parts department.

Thanks to Brian and Baza for all your help today.

Re: Front Engine Rubber Mount

When you do this job, it's best to get the bike level, and place a piece of wood under the engine. Then take the weight off the mounting with a small jack. It makes the job a whole lot easier to undo the 2 nuts (12) and remove the plate (16) completely. Whatever you do, don't alter the length of the stabilizer link (14). Just undo the bolt that holds it to the engine and swing it out of the way. Job done. Good luck.

Brian.
