Repositioning Fairing Mounted Gauges?

Chaps.

Just about done with running in my Electra Glide - think this is going to be a great bike!

I've just fitted my GPS mount to the LHS handlebar. The position seems great for the GPS: unfortunatly the fuel gauge is utterly obscured.

Not good, but not a killer since the 'mileage to empty' readout is clearly visible.

Anyways, to get around this it occurred to me to either swap the positions of the fuel gauge and voltmeter or move the fuel gauge down to occupy the place next to where the radio should be.

Without having looked closely at it yet, it seems probable that it should be doable even if I have to solder some extra wire to lengthen the existing wires.

Before I rip the front off the fairing I was wondering - has anyone else repositioned the fuel gauge?

Thanks.
