Vibration

I have a 2008 Fatboy. I have just had new wheels fitted under warranty by the main dealer, standard wheels which I have had powder coated, Riding the bike it felt that perhaps there wasn't the correct pressure in the tyres. I checked and it was ok and I thought the odd peculiarity of the ride was down to Road surface.
Today there was a distinct noise almost a grind and then a vibration started and I didn't think I'd be able to get the bike home.
The noise and vibration appear to be central of the bike towards the rear, if I pull the clutch in or throttle off, it stops. The bike engine is running fine and it changes all through the gears ok. Brakes are all ok and it freewheels ok.
I thought perhaps it was the wheel bearing but wouldn't this be constant noise? The drive belt looks ok and didn't feel overly warm when I stopped.

I will stick it onto the Jack tomorrow and look for any wobbles, then phone the dealers on Monday as it is still under warranty.

Anybody had anything similar? The bike has done 8000 miles

Re: Vibration

Did they replace the bearings when refitting the wheels?

The noise of a wheel bearing going isnt always constant.

Re: Vibration

Turns out it was the wheel bearing. The dealers took it apart and found that the bearing had also destroyed the spacer and chewed through the inside of the new wheel, totally writing it off.
When they did the original warranty job they did fit new bearings. Reading through this other thread http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...l-bearing.html perhaps there's a faulty batch.
New one now fitted under warranty.
Although I read the odd comments re the dealers on here, I'd like to thank The Foundry for getting it all sorted.
