Question erratic idle speed, FLSTF 2007

if I had a carb I'd have it out and check all was clean etc. but not sure what this might be as it's EFI model. I don't know if I can find the fault and you may tell me a I need specialist equipment, anyway here's the problem.

2007 FLSTF Fatboy, stage 1 by DG20 Feb 09, (V&H slip-ons, free flow filter (HD?), Kytech fueller).

A few weeks ago we did a run to the Shoulder camping w/e (Foresters 19), about 40 miles, two up and loaded with camping gear which should be fine as we did Walesby (over 100 miles) with the same setup no problem. At the end of the motorway stretch we came to some traffic, slow moving 1st gear and the bike would not idle properly. It felt like it was on choke (don't have manual choke of course as it's EFI), revs not excessive but higher than normal tick over. We got thought the traffic and up to a reasonable speed, at the next stop all was well, back to normal tick over and the rest of the w/e was fine.

Did a run to Brighton last week, again two up but no camping gear, about 40 miles each way with no problem.

Went out yesterday for a short run about 25 miles and again would not idle properly. Started and pulled off the drive no problem, first junction and it seemed to 'pop' a little and this time the tick over was way to slow, to the point of stalling. We stopped a couple of times (fuel and a cuppa) and each restart the tick over was normal, a few miles down the road and started to stall at junctions.

Not sure if the two incidents are connected? Also found this

Would the Idle Air Motor still be in place after stage 1?

So, is there anything I should check before I get a techie to hook up his computer?

Yes it will still be in place.
The ECU reads engine temp, load, and speed and adjusts tickover speed with this.
It's sort of the EFI version of a throttle stop.

Re: erratic idle speed, FLSTF 2007

Yes it would still be there.

Hard to diagnose if the problem is intermittant. On the scan tool the idle steps will be off vs. the voltage. (Tech talk)

There are only a couple of other things it could be that we see. Poor fuel pressure, or a broken throttle shaft. Neither of those is intermittant, & 07`s have a history of dodgy idle motors so......................

Thanks guys for a vey speedy response , looks like I need a techie then.
I'll see if it becomes more consistent while looking for a local indy to check it out.
