Re: 1947 fl knuck on ebay

Me too, but it's nostalgia, born of our part remembered and recorded highlights of a rose-tinted time. It wasn't really like that, unless you were white, middle class, American and well off. It was a simpler time though, when you could understand most things, and fix them yourself (like sticking valves in the telly until you found one that worked...).

Yokes are what hold your fork legs apart; yolks are the yellow part of eggs. Really, they are.

I agree with you. I wouldn't fancy starting work at 4 in the morning to fire up a steam loco or traveling to the south of France in a Ford Pop but somehow everything mechanical seems to have got over complicated these days. What about having to pay 1500 quid for a new ignition unit for your car if you loose the key! On the other hand would you fancy still having to use a starting handle?

...as I spent a good part of yesterday driving to my stranded wife so I could bump start her Zafira I could easily become a fan of starting handles. Problem is ignition key based so your £1500 comment is painful to think about!

(by the way, I keep thinking fondly of Gray's Morris Minor in these moments...and at MoT time,..etc..etc)

Re: 1947 fl knuck on ebay

Just like to poor guy on another thread on here with an idiot light blown. Not a difficult job; replace the bulb and it's good to go!

Until you read further and realise that the said idiot light is a surface mounted LED on a printed circuit board.

And they call it progress.....................

Here's a tasty 1937 in Oz, starting at AU$50,000 (about £31,000)

Blimey, they get more expensive by the day! Mind you it's an early one and they always fetch more.
There's a bitsa here for a lot less. Loads of wrong parts but maybe a bit more affordable. It'll be interesting to see what it fetches.

Yeah: I saw the bitsa too, but I couldn't get the pix to load for some reason. As for price, they ain't making any more, so I guess they won't be coming down any time soon.

True, but there are a lot more 45s and iron head sportys about than in the seventies, so I suspect that there is a factory in china knocking them out, so it's only a matter of time before they start on knuckles.
