| Trying to identify a silencer
Here's a question for you. Can anyone tell me what make this silencer is and where I can get one from? I've seen them on quite a few bikes but I've never seen an advert for anyone selling them. ( so it's probably something rare and expensive !! ) Thanks. ![]() The one below is the Paughco one so it's not one of theirs. ![]() This one is a Superior Cycle from Fabercycle. ![]() This is is apparently also Superior that someone sells on ebay |

Looks like a 1934 VLD. ![]() Harbor Vintage Motor Co., Inc. - VL Catalogue - CARBURETOR AND EXHAUST PARTS You could email the pic to Steve here Welcome to VL Heaven for confirmation and UK price. Last edited by Limey_Dave; 15-05-2012 at 01:17 PM. |

It does look a lot like the VL one but I think the body of the one in your picture is too long. I was under the impression it's a custom one but I've been wrong before !! ![]() |

What about a tractor or after-market silencer built up to your requirements. Massey Ferguson 35 / 135 pipe

Yes you're right,it's too long. ![]() The second pic in #1 looks like a Paughco, much smoother than the others, and chrome. Motorcycle Storehouse - Parts and Accessories The black ones could almost be 1950-52 WL,with the front pipe chopped, and the curved tail pipe added. |

Tractor parts on a Harley ! How very dare you !! ![]() I've found one of these, which looks quite close, that could be modified I suppose. ( Looks a bit like a 45 silencer but cheap as chips ) |

Problem solved ![]() It IS a 1934 VL but different to the one in Limey Dave's photo. It says 1934 "STYLE" In stock in J.W.Boons, so I've just ordered one. Nice when a plan comes together. |

| Re: Trying to identify a silencer
Be interested to see if the body is shorter,or if it's marked "style",because it's the same (correct) length, but not "restoration perfect". At that price you could always cut and shut it,if you do,put a sleeve up the inside, before welding and grinding the join. |

| Re: Trying to identify a silencer
The silencer came this morning. As usual fast service from J.W. Boon. It's the same length as the one in the VLD picture, so the body will need shortening by about 9-10 inches. It's a good job I ordered a black one and not chrome. The inlet is also 1 5/8 not 1 3/4 so that needs modding as well. I had a feeling it wasn't going to just drop on. I'm glad I know a very nice man with a band saw and mig welder ! As a bit of an asisde, has anyone out there got a knackered 45/pan/knuck/BTSV/early shovel speedo ( or any parts ) they want to get rid of? I want one for parts. My speedo works perfectly but the milometer bit doesn't. I had it apart and it seems the teeth on the gears between the drive and milometer are stripped. Not a big deal but I would like to get it working. Thanks. ( I have wondered if it's worth taking it to a clockmaker to see if they can do anything with it ) |
