Hi, A rebuilt seem to be the order of the day!!! Plenty of places to get rebuilt kits for them. In any case, you should only use a cloth peg to get the reserve to stay open??? Normal running should be just unscrewed??? Patrick |

If it's shutting off as your post suggests, the only remedies are to rebuild it as Patrick suggests, or dispense with the plunger seat and do as I did. Sounds to me like it's worn and needs at least re-seating. Rebuild would be best as you'd still have the reserve option, although you could probably get a lever tap with reserve to fit somehow. You could leave the plunger top on as that would look better.

Easy fix to put it right. Under the plunger rod operating cap (3637-40) is the screw cap that screws to the top of the tank(3636-40)....if you remove this, under it should be a spring(4764-26), washer(3635-40) and rubber seal(3635-40) in this order. The rubber seal is squashed around the plunger rod by the spring and washer and it is this gripping that holds the rod up. Over the years the rubber will shrink, so you can either pre-load it with extra washer, or make a new seal....or buy a new one. No need to remover the plunger assy....this can all be done once the operating rod cap is removed. You should only need to rebuild the valve assembly if the tap is leaking when it is shut-off. |
